About West Seattle Golf Course
West Seattle is one of the city's four municipal courses, owned by Seattle Parks and run by Premier Golf. It was designed by H. Chandler Egan, the two-time U.S. Amateur champion the course credits with Pebble Beach as we know it today, and it was one of four Washington courses built by the WPA. It opened in 1940.
It's par 72 and 6,805 yards from the Black tees (71.5 rating, 125 slope), with six sets of tees down to 4,756 from the Gold. You start on a long par 5, and The Seattle Times' 2018 review called the par-5 12th, with its view of the Seattle skyline, one of the prettiest and most memorable holes in the state. Rich Beem, the 2002 PGA champion, is quoted by the course calling the back nine one of the most beautiful nines you'll see anywhere. The same review warns that it can get very muddy in winter.
The course hosted the 1953 Public Links national championship and is home to the Seattle Amateur. Its record book goes back to the start: Palmer Smith shot 62 in the course's first era, and the women's record is Lauryn Nguyen's 67. After the round, the lounge looks out at Mount Rainier and the 1st and 10th tees.
