About Jefferson Park Golf Course

This is Seattle's oldest public course and the state's first municipal one, laid out by Robert Johnstone and open since 1915. It's short and friendly: par 70, 6,093 yards from the back, a returning-nines layout on Beacon Hill a few minutes south of downtown. The draw is the view, with the downtown skyline and Mt. Rainier out over the course. The course record is 59.

In October 2024 Seattle Parks renamed the place the Bill Wright Golf Complex, after a three-year push by the Beacon Hill Council, First Day Golf Club and Wright's family. Wright honed his game at Jefferson Park, and in 1959 he won the U.S. Amateur Public Links, the first Black golfer to win a USGA event.

It's a full city golf complex: the 18, a nine-hole par-3 course, a driving range with Toptracer, lessons and the Beacon Grill. The City of Seattle owns and maintains it and Premier Golf Centers runs it. Heads-up for the next year: the city plans safety netting along holes 11 and 12, with construction expected to start in early 2027, and those holes are temporarily modified until then.

It's one of 71 courses Yoink watches in the Seattle area, and Interbay Golf Center is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
