Jackson Park Golf Course

North Seattle's 1930 muni, known as one of the city's driest. Thornton Creek was rerouted through it in 2001, putting more water on the front nine.

About Jackson Park Golf Course

Jackson Park is the City of Seattle's course in the north end, off NE 135th Street: an 18-hole course, a par-3 executive nine and a Toptracer range, all run by Premier Golf under contract with Seattle Parks and Recreation. The course bills itself as one of the driest public courses in Seattle, which matters in a wet winter.

It opened in 1930 inside a 160.7-acre park that the city had opened two years earlier. The big change came in 2001, when a renovation let Thornton Creek run through the course in a more natural way. That added a lot of water to the front nine and made it noticeably harder. The blue tees rate 69.3 with a 121 slope for men.

The official course record is 62, set by former Mariners pitcher Erik Hanson at the 2015 Seattle Amateur and matched by Vinnie Murphy the next year. In the 1980s Metro Transit looked at the course as a site for a north-end bus base; golfers and neighbors pushed back, and it stayed a golf course.

It's one of 71 courses Yoink watches in the Seattle area, and Interbay Golf Center is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
