About Mission del Lago Golf Course

Mission del Lago is the city's links-style course on flat land south of San Antonio, near Mitchell Lake. Denis Griffiths designed it and it opened in 1989; the Trail notes he's the only American architect to have designed a course in St. Andrews. Conditions are typically windy, and there's plenty of sand: there are more than 100 bunkers, plus gullies, creeks and ponds, contoured fairways, and big, raised greens that are well guarded.

Tees run from 5,300 to 7,044 yards. The greens are TifDwarf Bermuda and the rest is Tifway 419. The Alamo City Golf Trail, the nonprofit that runs San Antonio's city courses, put in new irrigation in 2015, relined the bunkers and refurbished the ponds and clubhouse in 2022, and started repaving the cart paths in October 2025.

It's one of 35 courses Yoink watches in the San Antonio area, and the closest alternative is Riverside Golf Course, about 6 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
