About The Laurelwood Golf Course
Laurelwood is the City of Eugene's nine, a few blocks from Hayward Field and the University of Oregon, which makes it the easy after-class or after-work round in town. Clarence Sutton designed it, and it opened in 1929; Travel Oregon says it began as an 18-hole country club and was the first course built in Eugene. Dan Hixson updated it in 2019.
Don't let the nine holes fool you. It's a par 35 that runs 3,053 yards from the black tees with a 131 slope, and it opens with a 609-yard par 5 and closes with another par 5. The blue (2,871), white (2,618) and silver (2,224) tees take a lot of the sting out. The greens are bentgrass and the fairways poa annua.
The city park around it covers about 92 acres, including a patch of forest on the southeast side with a trail that links to the Ridgeline trail toward Hendricks Park. The covered driving range lets you hit balls in the rain, and there's a restaurant in the clubhouse.
