About Rainmakers Resort and Club
Rainmakers is Robert Trent Jones II's mountain course, cut into high rock walls with arroyos wandering through and natural outcroppings framing the holes. It sits at more than 7,000 feet, and the club says the altitude helps make its 7,110 yards playable for good players. Every hole has four to six sets of tees, so there's a sensible distance for everyone.
The wildlife is part of the round. Elk, deer, bobcats and black bears live on the property, and the elk herd is big enough that the club wrote a local rule: if your ball lands in an elk track, you can improve your lie. Jones says Audubon International named it the first Signature Sanctuary course in New Mexico.
It was built as a private residential club, and it has the rankings to show for it: Golfweek put it first among New Mexico's private courses and tied for 87th in America in 2023. Ruidoso's tourism office says it has opened to the public seven days a week in summer.
It's one of 7 courses Yoink watches in the Ruidoso & Southeast New Mexico area, and the closest alternative is Links at Sierra Blanca, about 2 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
