Links at Sierra Blanca

Jim Colbert and Jeff Bauer built it in 1991 on the village's old airport: links-style mounds on the front nine, tall pines on the back. Open all year.

About Links at Sierra Blanca

The Links is a par 72 at 6,900 feet, and it's two courses in one. The front nine is the links half, with rolling fairways and big mounds meant to look like old Scottish ground; the back nine turns into the tall pines and feels more closed in. Senior PGA Tour player Jim Colbert designed it with architect Jeff Bauer in 1991.

The land used to be the town's airport. Ruidoso Municipal Airport, once known as Cree Meadows, sat in the middle of the village with a 5,500-foot paved runway, and it closed because the high terrain around it made the approaches too hard. The new Sierra Blanca Regional Airport opened on another site in 1987, and the old one became the golf course, the Lodge at Sierra Blanca, the convention center and the middle school.

Most golf around Ruidoso runs spring through fall, but the Links stays open all year when the weather allows, and it's public with daily tee times.
