Who runs public golf in New Mexico
We found no state parks golf system. Public golf is mostly cities and universities: the City of Albuquerque runs 90 holes across four courses with annual passes good at all of them, and UNM and NMSU both run public courses on campus. Amateur golf is run by the Sun Country Amateur Golf Association, which covers New Mexico and West Texas, runs tournaments and handicapping, and in 2009 bought the Sun Country Golf House in Rio Rancho with the Sun Country PGA Section (founded 1974). The Sun Country Golf Foundation, formed in 1999 by the two, runs youth and military programs; Sun Country Junior Tour members get $5 Youth on Course rounds. The New Mexico Open has been played every year since 1954.

Getting a tee time in New Mexico
The season in New Mexico runs roughly from spring to late fall. The first warm weekends in spring and the cool, dry weekends of fall are the hardest to book.
Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.
Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.
