About Soldier Hill Golf Course

Soldier Hill is a traditional par 71 with a split personality. The front nine runs between mature trees, so the tee shot matters; the back nine opens up and brings water into play. The county describes a mix of holes that ask for accurate shots and holes with room to land it, finishing on gently sloping greens.

It was the privately owned Emerson Golf Club until Bergen County moved to buy it in 2017 for $8.5 million, which made it the county's sixth course. Most of its 135 acres are actually in Oradell (114 acres, with 21 in Emerson), and the purchase kept the land as a buffer for the Oradell Reservoir, a drinking-water source for Bergen and Hudson counties. The county golf system's main office is here now.

It's one of 75 courses Yoink watches in the Northern & Central New Jersey area, and the closest alternative is Valley Brook Golf Course, about 2 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
