About Rockleigh Golf Course
Rockleigh is Bergen County's only 27-hole course, and it splits into two very different rounds. The Red and White nines make up the county's championship 18, the one that hosts the Bergen County Amateur every year. The Blue nine is the quick one: built in 1961, short, and the place to work on your wedges or learn the game without a membership card.
The 18 is Alfred Tull's work, and the county says the routing never sends two holes side by side over the same ground, so every hole looks different. The strength is at the end of the front nine, where 7, 8 and 9 run from the southern tip of the 270-acre property back to the clubhouse: a 479-yard par 4, a 232-yard par 3 and a 436-yard par 4 from the back tees. Golficity calls out Red No. 4, a short downhill par 3 with more than 40 yards of water to carry, and says course staff have compared it to the island green at Sawgrass.
Robert McNeil of The Northeast Golf Company renovated the Red and White nines completely in 2004. Red and White have maintenance mornings on Thursday and Blue on Wednesday, so expect a late start those days.
