Orchard Hills Golf Course

A 1925 country club cut down to nine when Bergen Community College went up. Short par 4s, tough par 3s, and small greens that punish a loose approach.

About Orchard Hills Golf Course

Orchard Hills started in 1925 as the Orchard Hills Country Club. In the late 1960s, when Bergen Community College was built around it, the course was rerouted into nine holes and opened to the public, and it still sits on the college grounds. The county notes that Ridgewood Country Club is a stone's throw away, and Orchard Hills has the same rolling, tree-lined ground.

It's only 2,776 yards, a mix of short par 4s and harder par 3s, so length won't save you. The greens are small and well protected, and the approach is where the round is won or lost. A 2012 renovation added new bunkers and tees, cart paths, irrigation and new greens on the 4th and 5th. It's busy: the county says more than 35,000 rounds a year are played here, bringing in more money per hole than any other county course.

It's one of 75 courses Yoink watches in the Northern & Central New Jersey area, and the closest alternative is Soldier Hill Golf Course, about 3 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.

Booking a tee time at Orchard Hills Golf Course
