About Sand Creek Station - Sand Creek Station

Sand Creek Station is Jeff Brauer's 2006 course on both sides of the rail line into Newton, and it leans into the theme. Many holes run 'hard by the cinders,' as the Scots say, and the design borrows from old railway golf: the 16th green recreates St Andrews' Road Hole green, another hole copies North Berwick's Redan, and the 12th is modeled on the 4th at National Golf Links of America.

It's not just a history lesson. It stretches past 7,200 yards from the back (five sets of tees bring it in), the Kansas breeze is always there, and the holes point in every direction, so the wind never settles into one pattern. The 10th is a long par 5 with water on all three shots, the course calls the long 6th the toughest on the front, and holes 1, 2, 8 and 9 run along Sand Creek itself.

In 2014 the USGA brought the 89th and final U.S. Amateur Public Links here, making it the tenth Kansas club to host a USGA championship. Golfweek's 2018 Best Courses You Can Play list put it fourth in Kansas, and GOLF Magazine's 2017 state-by-state list had it third. It's about 25 minutes north of Wichita.
