Kansas Golf Courses & Tee Times
Kansas has organized golf going back more than a century. The Kansas Golf Association formed in 1908 and held the first Kansas Amateur that year at Wichita Country Club; the Kansas Women's Golf Association followed in 1915. The state also produced Jug McSpaden, born in Johnson County in 1908, who played the Ryder Cup and paired with Byron Nelson as the Gold Dust Twins, and Wichita's Judy Bell, the first woman to lead the USGA. Prairie Dunes near Hutchinson, a Perry Maxwell course from 1937, is private, but it has hosted the 2002 U.S. Women's Open and 2006 U.S. Senior Open.

In the Kansas City suburbs, Johnson County runs Heritage Park and Tomahawk Hills, and Overland Park owns Sykes/Lady and St. Andrews, each with its own patron card. The state association now works as Central Links Golf, a merger of the Kansas, Kansas Women's and Kansas City golf associations, and the Kansas Junior Golf Association it administers dates to 1985. For juniors, Youth on Course rounds cost $5 or less for ages 6 to 18.

Getting a tee time in Kansas
The season in Kansas runs roughly from spring to late fall. The first warm weekends in spring and the cool, dry weekends of fall are the hardest to book.
Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.
A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.
