About Tomahawk Hills Golf Course
Tomahawk Hills is one of the two courses run by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District, and the district says it’s the oldest golf course in the Kansas City metro, built in 1910. It’s an 18-hole par 70 of just over 6,000 yards, short by modern standards, and the county bills it as one of the area’s most challenging public courses. Length isn’t where it gets you.
The fairways are zoysia and the greens are bentgrass. The district runs a tight ship on pace: it wants early groups around in under four hours and later groups under four and a half. Fivesomes are allowed every day, and if you book as a single, twosome or threesome, expect to be paired up.
It's one of 37 courses Yoink watches in the Kansas City area, and the closest alternative is Falcon Valley Golf Course, about 5 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
