About Kapalua Golf - The Plantation Course
The Plantation Course is Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore's layout on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains, built on a grand scale with ocean views from almost every hole. From the tour tees it's 7,596 yards and par 73, which sounds brutal, but the fairways are wide and the greens are generous, so it plays kinder than the number. Most people play the Regular (6,701) or Resort (6,077) tees.
What you'll remember is the slope. There are plenty of downhill tee shots, and the 18th fairway falls away so hard that it's where most people hit the longest drive of their lives. The trade winds usually pick up in the afternoon, which changes how the big downhill and uphill shots play, so an early tee time is the calmer round.
It's a PGA Tour course. The Plantation has hosted more than 25 Tour events, with fields that included Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Jordan Spieth, and the course record of 61 is shared by Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm and Matt Jones from the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions. Golf Digest put it 23rd on America's Greatest Public Courses in 2025, and Golfweek had it 27th on its 2026 list of the Top 100 Best Courses You Can Play.
It's one of 4 courses in Lahaina on Yoink, and Kapalua Golf - The Bay Course is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
