Hawaii Golf Courses & Tee Times
Hawaii's amateur golf is run by the Hawaii State Golf Association, formed in 1984 and recognized by the USGA as the state's body for amateur golf. Its stroke-play State Amateur traces back to the Atherton Cup of 1928 and moved from Waialae to Pearl Country Club in 1987 to fit a bigger field. The pro calendar is in flux. The PGA Tour's Sentry was not played in 2026 after Maui's drought took Kapalua's Plantation Course out, and the Sony Open at Waialae moves to PGA Tour Champions in 2027.
Tee times in Hawaii are easier to get when you know when they open. Yoink watches 50 public golf courses here, grouped into 4 markets: Oahu, Big Island, Maui, Kauai. Choose a market to see every course, then get an alert when a tee time opens or someone cancels.

Who runs public golf in Hawaii
Public golf in Hawaii leans on county courses with resident rates. On Oahu, the City and County of Honolulu runs six municipal courses, and its Golf I.D. card goes only to Hawaii residents. As of 2026, card holders pay $28 for a weekday 18 and everyone else $86. On Kauai, the county runs Wailua Golf Course, designed by Toyo Shirai and a full 18 since 1961. HSGA is the state's GHIN handicap provider and runs 22 tournaments a year, including the Manoa Cup, the state match-play championship, held at Oahu Country Club in 2026.

- Kapalua Golf - The Plantation Course: Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore design on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains. Over 25 PGA Tour events; course record 61, shared by Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm and Matt Jones at the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions.
- Wailua Golf Course: County of Kauai course by Toyo Shirai. Host of three USGA Amateur Public Links Championships. No. 26 on GOLF's 2021 list of the 30 best municipal courses in America.

Booking tee times in Hawaii: the local rules
Resident status drives booking on county courses. At Honolulu's six courses, Golf I.D. holders can book 7 days ahead and non-cardholders 3 days ahead, both from 6:30 a.m. (as of 2026). Kauai's Wailua takes tee times up to 7 days out by phone from 7 a.m. and requires them for everyone.

Getting a tee time in Hawaii
Hawaii is a winter golf destination. The months other places shut down are the busiest here, so November-through-April mornings go first, weekdays included.
Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.
A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.
