About Kapalua Golf - The Bay Course

The Bay Course is the older of Kapalua’s two courses, opened in 1975 and run by Troon. Kapalua bills it as "Hawaii’s favorite resort course," and its best-known hole is a par 3 that plays over the ocean, the only hole on Maui that does. The tees run from 72.7/137 at the championship markers down to 65.5/115 up front, so it can be set up hard or friendly.

The tournament list is long. Kapalua says more than 20 major professional events have been played here, the most of any course on a neighbor island. The 1983 Kapalua International was the first live prime-time golf telecast. Greg Norman got his first win on American soil here, Fred Couples and Davis Love III each won twice, Ian Woosnam and David Llewellyn won the World Cup of Golf for Wales, and Morgan Pressel won the Kapalua LPGA Classic.

Right now the course is closed. Kapalua shut both courses on September 2, 2025 to bring the turf back after long irrigation limits during Maui’s drought. The Plantation reopened that November, but the Bay Course stays closed until further notice. The Bay driving range, golf shop and Taverna are open.
