About Lake View Golf Course At Callaway Gardens
Lake View is the older of Callaway Gardens' two courses. It opened in 1952 on the same day the gardens did, laid out by J.B. McGovern and Dick Wilson. Cason Callaway's rule for it was that any golfer who lifts his head on a shot should see something beautiful, and the routing follows that idea around the water.
It's a par 70 just under 6,200 yards from the back, with wide resort fairways, but water is in play on nine holes, including a six-hole stretch around Mountain Creek Lake. The two nines feel different: the front is tighter and tree-lined, the back opens up and forgives a loose drive. The hole people remember is the par-3 10th, played from an island tee with a serpentine bridge.
Walking off the 10th green you pass the original clubhouse, a two-story building that now has The Gardens Restaurant upstairs, looking over the lake and the 10th, and a snack shop for golfers below. In 2022 Herschend Family Entertainment agreed to buy the resort's revenue-producing assets, golf courses included, from the Ida Cason Callaway Foundation.
