The Forest is the tighter, woodsier of the two 18s at The Eagles. Gary Koch, the former PGA Tour player, designed the front nine and Ron Garl the back, and it rewards accuracy over length: contoured fairways, well-protected greens, and trees framing most of the holes. It's par 72 and 6,604 yards from the black tees (72.7, slope 134), with four more sets down to 4,768.
The holes people talk about are the island-green par-3 sixth; the short par-4 third, which you can drive with a good one, though water runs the whole right side and bunkers ring the green, so laying up is the smart play; the reachable par-5 10th, cut out of dense forest; and the 13th, which regulars call 'Lake Michigan' for the big lake guarding the green. The club says a par there is as good as a birdie. The 17th, 'the partner's hole,' has water down the left from tee to green and woods on the right.
