Lansbrook Golf Club

Lane Marshall built it in 1975, Ron Garl reworked it in 1991: tall cypress, water on 16 holes, no parallel fairways, an 11th that recalls Augusta's 16th.

About Lansbrook Golf Club

Lansbrook is a cypress-and-wetlands course, and water is the theme: it's in play on 16 holes. There are no parallel fairways, so every hole feels like its own room, framed by tall cypress. It's par 72 and 6,846 yards from the back tees (73.3 rating, 131 slope), which is plenty. Masters fans will like the 11th, which the club says is reminiscent of the 16th at Augusta National.

Lane Marshall designed the original course, which opened in 1975, and Ron Garl renovated it in 1991. In 2012 the greens were regrassed to Champion Dwarf Bermuda, the same surface a dozen PGA Tour venues including Pinehurst No. 2 went to, and they're the club's point of pride. Larry Bird, Reggie Jackson and members of the Toronto Blue Jays have all played it.

It's a daily-fee club owned and run by PGA professionals, with practice facilities, lessons, a golf shop and the Pizzeria and Grille. It's spikeless, and carts stay on the paths and away from greens and tees. Watch for the occasional alligator.

It's one of 2 courses in Palm Harbor on Yoink, and Tarpon Woods Golf Club is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
