About Moccasin Wallow Golf Club

The MOC sits right where I-75 meets I-275 in Palmetto, but once you're out on it you're in 200 acres of woods with 16 lakes. Ted McAnlis designed it. The hole people bring up is No. 9, a 580-yard par 5 that doglegs around Imperial Lake, and the club says local golfers pick it year after year as the best par 5 in southwest Florida.

It used to be Imperial Lakewoods Golf Club. The Zelnik family bought it and renamed it Moccasin Wallow, and Noah Zelnik, who played developmental tours and caddied on the PGA Tour, runs the place. They closed it in May 2016 to redo the irrigation, greens, tees and fairways, sprigged TifEagle greens that August and put in Celebration Bermuda fairways, then laser-leveled some tees and the range in 2017. The nines were flipped so the turn comes back past the clubhouse and its sports bar, which looks out on a 55-acre lake.

It plays anywhere from about 3,700 yards off the family tee to close to 7,000 from the back. It's also home to the West Florida Golf Tour, Tampa Bay's developmental pro tour, so don't be surprised to see aspiring pros grinding on the range.
