About Huntington Hills Golf and Country Club

Ron Garl, a Lakeland native, designed and built Huntington Hills in his own backyard, and it opened in 1992. What sets it apart is something most Florida courses never get: natural elevation. Golf Aficionado says that while Garl was overseeing construction he could see the lights of Tampa, 40 miles off, from the clubhouse. The course calls itself rolling hills and extra large TifEagle greens, and there are five sets of tees.

Garl came back later for a renovation that cost well over $1 million: all new TifEagle greens, several bunkers taken out because they punished good tee shots, the survivors rebuilt with new drainage, and a new irrigation system. The club has since redone its bunkers again. It's owned and operated by PGA professionals, with a lighted driving range, a large putting green, and a bar and restaurant looking out over the course.

It's one of 4 courses in Lakeland on Yoink, and the closest alternative is Big Cypress Golf Club - South Championship, about 2 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
