About Dunedin Golf Club
Dunedin is a city-owned Donald Ross course that opened on January 1, 1927, as Dunedin Isles Golf Club, and the Ross connection is the whole point now. It's a par 72 of 6,745 yards. The history is bigger than most munis get. The PGA of America moved its headquarters here from Chicago in the 1940s and ran the place as PGA National Golf Club, leasing it from the city. It hosted 18 straight Senior PGA Championships, the start of what became the senior tour, and the first PGA Merchandise Show in 1954. Bobby Jones, Hogan, Snead, Nelson, Louise Suggs and Babe Didrikson all came through. It went on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
The restoration is the reason to go now. Over the decades the greens had shrunk by 35 to 50 percent. When Kris Spence took it on in 2024 he found Ross's original greens buried under later material, not bulldozed, so the crew dug them out and restored them, along with the bunkers, fairways and tees, in a $6 million project. The routing is Ross's; some bunkers moved to account for how far the ball goes now. Golf Inc. named it its public-course Renovation of the Year in 2025. Spence says the bunkers have real depth and that the low, running approaches you'd play in Scotland work here again.
