Delaware Golf Courses & Tee Times

Delaware golf has been organized since January 1952, when club representatives met at DuPont Country Club to form the Delaware State Golf Association. The DSGA has since merged into the Golf Association of Philadelphia, which now runs Delaware's state events, handicapping and course rating. The state's big events have been at private clubs: the McDonald's LPGA event at DuPont from 1987 to 2004, and the 2022 BMW Championship at Wilmington Country Club, the first PGA Tour event held in Delaware.

Tee times in Delaware are easier to get when you know when they open. Yoink watches 22 public golf courses here, grouped into 2 markets: Delmarva Beaches — OC & Rehoboth, Philadelphia. Choose a market to see every course, then get an alert when a tee time opens or someone cancels.

Who runs public golf in Delaware

There is no state parks golf system. Public golf around Wilmington comes down to a few daily-fee courses. Ed Oliver Golf Club, a par 70, sits on Wilmington Country Club's original site and is named for Ed "Porky" Oliver, the Wilmington caddie who won on the PGA Tour and finished second in the PGA, the Masters and the U.S. Open. Delcastle is an Ed Ault design from 1971. Rock Manor, where Blaise Giroso learned the game, was lengthened by Lester George to 6,405 yards. Down at the beaches, Bear Trap Dunes is near Bethany Beach. For juniors, the DSGA scholarship fund has awarded more than $1 million since 1986, and GAP runs Team Delaware.

Getting a tee time in Delaware

The season in Delaware runs roughly from spring to late fall. The first warm weekends in spring and the cool, dry weekends of fall are the hardest to book.

Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.

A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.
