About Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club
Bear Trap Dunes is 27 holes in three nines, Grizzly, Kodiak and Black Bear, three miles west of Bethany Beach. Rick Jacobson, who used to work with Jack Nicklaus, designed it, and the thing you notice first is the sand: dunes built to match the coastal ground, with grassy hollows, bunkers and water in play. The club's own line is that you have to think your way through each hole, and that's fair.
Whichever two nines you play, it's a real test from the back: the championship tees rate 72.1 to 72.7 with slopes from 126 to 130, and Black Bear paired with either of the others is the stiffer combination.
