Oakcreek Country Club

Sedona's first course, a 1968 Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr. design under the red rocks. Tree-lined doglegs, raised greens, three lakes in play.

About Oakcreek Country Club

Oakcreek opened in 1968 as Sedona's first golf course, with Miller Barber and Bob Rosburg playing the opening match. Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Jr. designed it, and it has since hosted the Sedona Open and Arizona Golf Association events. It's a country club with members, but it's open to the public.

The club describes a traditional layout in the Midwest style, spread over 145 acres: tree-lined doglegs, fairway bunkers, and slightly raised greens ringed by big swirling bunkers, all set against Sedona's red rocks. Three lakes bring water into play on 4, 6 and 7 going out and on 10 and 18 coming in. Jones Sr.'s line was that every hole should be a hard par and an easy bogey, and the club calls it player-friendly, with room to recover.

It's a par 72 that plays 6,824 yards from the black tees (72.0 rating, 134 slope) and 6,353 from the blues, with forward sets all the way down to 4,419. After the round the Bistro has a full bar and looks out over the 18th green and its lake.

It's one of 13 courses Yoink watches in the Prescott, Sedona & Flagstaff area, and Sedona Golf Resort is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
