Memorial Park Golf Course

Bredemus built it in 1936, Tom Doak and Brooks Koepka rebuilt it in 2019, and the Houston Open and the LPGA's Chevron now play the same muni you can.

About Memorial Park Golf Course

Memorial Park started in 1912 as a nine-hole, sand-greens course by the hospital at Camp Logan, for convalescing soldiers. After the hospital closed, John Bredemus redesigned it, and it opened in July 1936. Legend has him calling it his greatest golf course ever. Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Jimmy Demaret all played it, and it was the home of the Houston Open from 1951 to 1963. The city renovated the 600-acre park course in 1995, adding a lighted range and a new clubhouse.

The big change came in 2019. The Astros Golf Foundation paid to rebuild it, hired Tom Doak, and brought in Brooks Koepka as the PGA Tour player consultant. The aim was a course the pros and the public could both play, and it worked: the Houston Open came back for the first time since 1963, and in April 2026 the LPGA's Chevron Championship, the tour's first major of the season, was played here. The pros start on a 522-yard par 4 that bends left. Under the course, a stormwater system holds 80 million gallons for irrigation, so it doesn't draw on the city's drinking water.

It's still a city course, run under the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, and still busy. The range is a two-tier, 84-bay building that stays open until 9 p.m. The course is closed on Tuesdays.
