About Jimmy Clay Golf Course
Jimmy Clay is the older half of the city's Clay-Kizer complex in Southeast Austin. Joe Finger designed it and it opened in 1974; Roy Kizer came along next door in 1994 and made it 36 holes. It's the traditional one of the pair, 6,918 yards of tree-lined fairways running to elevated, open greens, with Williamson Creek winding around the property.
The creek is in the round more than you'd guess. The map survey has water touching 11 holes, eight of them along the creek, though only one is a forced carry. Thirteen holes are tree-lined, nine bend, and there are 36 bunkers. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.
The city has kept working on it. In 2007 three holes were redesigned around a water feature by an island green, every green was replanted and the bunkers were rebuilt. In 2015 four greens were reshaped, and the range was enlarged with bigger targets and a raised hitting area. There's also a short-game area with a practice bunker, the Joe Balander Learning Center and the Stag and Finch snack bar.

Weekday times open online at 9 a.m., seven days ahead; you can also book in person when the shop opens or by phone at (512) 974-4653 starting 30 minutes before the first tee time. Weekends are the race: Saturday and Sunday open online only the Monday before at 8 p.m., and the phones don't take weekend bookings until Tuesday. You need a Golf ATX account to book online. Fees effective October 1, 2025 are $35 Monday to Thursday, $41 Friday and $44 weekends and holidays, with carts $18 a person, and Austin residents can buy a $5 resident card for a discount. It's card only, no cash, and the course closes the first Monday of most months for maintenance.
