About Ted Rhodes Golf Course
Ted Rhodes sits on the banks of the Cumberland River in North Nashville. Metro Parks calls it a links-style 18 with lakes and bunkers, big greens that give you a generous target on approach, and an easy walk. The lakes and the river bring in turtles, muskrats and now and then a family of beaver.
It opened in 1953 as the nine-hole Cumberland Golf Course. In 1969, at Councilman Robert Lillard's request, the Park Board renamed it for Theodore "Ted" Rhodes, the Nashville golf professional who paved the way for Black golfers like Charlie Sifford, Lee Elder, Renee Powell and Tiger Woods. It was redesigned and expanded to 18 holes in May 1992.
It's home to the Duffers Golf Association, whose members play for competition and fellowship and hold an annual tournament that raises money for sickle cell anemia.
