About Shelby Golf Course
This is where public golf in Nashville started. Shelby opened in 1924 as the city's first municipal course, and it still sits inside Shelby Park in East Nashville, an 18 that moves over rolling hills. From the blue tees it's 6,079 yards, rated 68.2 with a 110 slope, so it's short by modern standards.
It just had its biggest overhaul in decades. In September 2023, Brandt Snedeker and Lou Graham presented $2 million given to the Tennessee Golf Foundation for work at Shelby and Vinny Links. Metro closed the course on March 4, 2024 for about a year, rebuilt the greens complexes and surrounds, stretched some tees, redid the irrigation and fixed up the clubhouse. The new TifEagle Bermuda greens were planted that summer, just in time for the course's 100th anniversary.
Shelby is also home to the School Days Junior Golf Tournament, which Metro calls the longest running golf tournament in Tennessee.
It's one of 39 courses Yoink watches in the Nashville area, and the closest alternative is Nashville National Golf Links, about 3 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
