Golden Hills Golf and Country Club

Ron Garl laid it out in 1988 over an old dairy farm running down to Twelve Mile Creek: rolling ground, tall pines and oaks, lakes, and TifEagle greens.

About Golden Hills Golf and Country Club

Golden Hills is a Ron Garl course that opened in 1988, the centerpiece of a 300-acre neighborhood running from Highway 378 down to Twelve Mile Creek. It's rolling ground under tall pines and oaks, with lakes and streams through it, and the club says Garl kept the land's natural contours rather than flattening them, which it likens to St Andrews.

The land was part of a plantation Christopher Caughman bought in the early 1800s and later the Golden Glow Dairy Farm, which gave the club its name and its slogan, "as good as the best and better than the rest."

The greens got a full overhaul. The 17th, which never got enough sun, was reshaped in 2012 and sodded with shade-tolerant Zoysia. In 2014 the front bunker on 5 came out so the green could nearly double in size, and 14 got a new green complex. In 2015 the rest of the greens were converted to TifEagle Bermuda and the tees on 7 and 13 were rebuilt. It's a full country club: range, chipping and putting greens, tennis, a pool, and a Scottish tavern in the clubhouse.
