Fort Jackson Golf Club- Wildcat Course

Army post golf since 1949: generous fairways through rolling hills and South Carolina pines, and the Columbia skyline from the 17th tee.

About Fort Jackson Golf Club- Wildcat Course

Wildcat is one of two 18s at the Fort Jackson Golf Club, the Army's course on the post outside Columbia, and it's open to the public. It winds through rolling hills and South Carolina pines with generous fairways and bunkers placed to make you think. It runs from 5,426 yards off the reds to 6,721 from the championship tees. The hole people remember is the 17th, where the tee gives you a view of the Columbia skyline.

The map survey counts trees along 15 of the 18 holes, nine doglegs (eight of them bending left), around 52 bunkers and water near seven holes, with about 50 feet between the high and low points. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.

The club opened in 1949 with an 18 by George Cobb. In 1991 Arthur L. Davis kept 16 of Cobb's holes, added 20 new ones and turned it into the 36-hole complex that's here now, Wildcat plus Old Hickory, which hosted the 1998 All Army Golf Trials Camp. More than 50,000 rounds a year are played across the two, and the club calls itself "The Army's Best Golf." There's a 10,000-square-foot clubhouse with a pro shop, snack bar and lounge, plus practice facilities, and it's only a few minutes off I-77.

It's one of 18 courses Yoink watches in the Columbia & the Midlands area, and the closest alternative is Northwoods Golf Club, about 8 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
