About Hidden Creek Golf Club

Hidden Creek is a public 18 off I-75 and Route 30 on Lima's Sugar Creek Road. James Bassett built it in 1999, and it's bentgrass everywhere: fairways, tees and greens. The fairways are the thing the owners are proudest of. Water is the main trouble, in play on 12 of the 18 holes, so bring extra balls if you tend to leak one.

It used to be Golf @ Sugar Creek. The Young family bought it and renamed it Hidden Creek; they've owned Bluffton Golf Club, six miles away, since 1989. Floyd Young, the patriarch, is a PGA professional who caddied for Jack Nicklaus at the 1971 PGA Championship at PGA National and went into the Lima/Allen County Golf Hall of Fame in 2014. His daughter Wendy runs Hidden Creek day to day. There's a range, a big practice green in front of the clubhouse, a pro shop, the NINE18 snack bar and an open-air pavilion by the 18th that seats 225. Bring your own clubs: Hidden Creek doesn't rent them.
