About Delphos Country Club

Delphos Country Club is a par-71 public course with memberships, 6,655 yards from the back (71.1 rating, 125 slope), with four sets of tees plus a kid-friendly set for a nine-hole short course. The greens are bentgrass, the fairways rye, and there are 26 bunkers out there; a practice trap by the range lets you get ready for them.

It started with four locals in 1958 who pitched a nine-hole course to the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce. The old Remlinger farm on Shenk Road was bought from Francis Nomina, who became the first greenskeeper, and Leonard Schmutte of Findlay Country Club laid out the holes. Members tore down old buildings and cleared trees themselves, and the first foursome went out after the ribbon cutting in May 1959. In 1961 they built the clubhouse around the old farmhouse, and it's still the clubhouse today.

The second nine came on 70 acres of the neighboring Kleman farm, again laid out by Schmutte. It was meant to open July 4, 1975, but weather pushed it to May 2, 1976. Full-course irrigation followed in 1988 and a bigger pro shop in 1992. Practice is easy here: a full-size range with grass and mat tees, a practice bunker and a big putting green by the first tee.
