Tamarack Golf Course

Middlesex County's two Hal Purdy courses, open since 1973. Mark Mungeam rebuilt every hole on the West in 2025, reversing the nines.

About Tamarack Golf Course

Tamarack is Middlesex County's 36-hole public facility, two Hal Purdy courses that opened in 1973. The East is the shorter one at 6,226 yards and par 71; the West is the big course, 7,025 yards and par 72. Plenty of the county's high school teams call it home, and the New Jersey State Golf Association has rated it the second most difficult course across Middlesex, Monmouth, Mercer, Somerset and Union counties.

The West is the news. It reopened on June 12, 2025 after an 18-month rebuild by architect Mark Mungeam: same corridors through rolling land, woods and streams, but every hole rebuilt and the nines reversed. All 18 greens are new USGA-spec bentgrass, about 75 new tees let it play from roughly 4,900 to more than 7,000 yards, and every bunker was redone with Capillary Concrete liners. Golfers put the West on GolfPass's 2026 Golfer's Choice list of New Jersey's top-20 public courses.

The practice setup is a 34-stall range with five target greens plus two big putting greens, and the Tap and Grill Room is there before or after the round.
