The name is the story. Goodman grew up in South Omaha, the son of Lithuanian immigrants, orphaned at 14, and learned the game caddying at the Field Club. He won the Omaha city championship in 1925, then five straight Nebraska Amateurs starting in 1929, the same year he knocked Bobby Jones out of the U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach at 19. In 1933 he won the U.S. Open, the last amateur ever to do it, and he added the U.S. Amateur in 1937. He sold insurance for a living and didn't turn pro until 1960. He died in August 1970, the year the course opened.
