About Elmwood Golf Course
Elmwood is the old city course inside Elmwood Park, one of Omaha's big parks since 1889. When the course opened in 1916 it was laid through the park's ravines and grassy fields; before that, the Omaha Bee had described the land as a wild spot with a wooded ravine following a small stream. The World-Herald marked its 100th birthday in 2016 as the oldest 18-hole city course, and its pro at the time called it the first course for a lot of people.
It has a famous former vendor, too. In the 1940s a young Warren Buffett set up a golf ball stand at the course. It's a public course, run as one of the city's own.
It's one of 14 courses in Omaha on Yoink, and the closest alternative is Spring Lake GC, about 3 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
