About University of Montana Golf Course
UM's course sits a mile south of campus on one of the last open spaces in the Missoula valley. It's nine holes with three sets of tees, so a full round means going around twice. The ground is flat and the fairways are lined with mature trees, and the Montana State Golf Association calls it walkable, so this is a carry-your-bag kind of round. The state golf association calls it, in a way, one of the oldest courses in Montana. The Missoula Country Club built a course here in 1916, at the base of Mount Sentinel, and played it until it moved across town. For a couple of years it was known as the Garden City Community Course, and in 1928 University of Montana alumni bought it to tie the campus and the town together. Campus Recreation runs it today, and university students work the counter.
Deer and other wildlife are common, and some of the edges have been returned to native prairie. After the season ends, the course becomes a spot for cross-country skiing, sledding, walking and jogging. The Iron Griz restaurant, run by UM Dining, is on site.

On the rates page when we checked in September 2026, the public paid $21 for nine holes Monday to Thursday and $24 Friday to Sunday, or $36 and $42 for 18. UM students paid $18 or $31 any day, and faculty and staff get 10% off.
