Rivercut is the Springfield-Greene County Park Board's top course, a Ken Dye design along the James River. Golf Digest rated it Missouri's No. 1 municipal course in 2009, and Golfweek put it among the Top 10 Missouri public courses in 2022. Evangel University, which plays its fall and spring invitationals here, says it opened in 1998 and plays about 7,000 yards to a par 72.

The river is part of the round early: it lurks left on the 4th and 5th, and the 6th is a par 3 over it to a two-tier green. Then comes what the course calls its amen corner, 8 through 10, ending with the longest hole, a 611-yard par 5 with water down the left and a creek crossing the fairway about 130 yards short of the green. Into the wind it's a three-shot grind, and the course calls it one of the most written-about par 5s in the Midwest. Look for the old rock wall along the 13th. Several greens are two-tiered, so the level you land on matters.

The practice area covers more than 450,000 square feet, with a grass and turf range, two putting greens and a chipping green with bunkers. The course is open all year, from 7:30 a.m. in the warm months and 8 a.m. from October through February.

It's one of 4 courses in Springfield on Yoink, and the closest alternative is Horton Smith Golf Course, about 4 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.

Booking a tee time at Rivercut Golf Course

Book through the Park Board's golf site or call the pro shop at (417) 891-1645. On weekends you can't book 9 holes online before noon. Posted rates for 18 (the page gives no year) are $40 walking or $60 with a cart on weekdays, $50 and $70 on weekends and holidays, and $33 and $53 for seniors 60 and up on weekdays. On weekends you can only walk after 1 p.m. Veterans and military get 15% off on Fridays.
