About Detroit Country Club - Pine to Palm
Pine to Palm was finished in 1916 and plays like a lake-country course from that era: rolling ground, trees lining every fairway, par 36-35-71. The course is best known for its tournament. The Pine to Palm started in 1931 as the youngest of Minnesota's three resort-circuit amateurs, after the Birchmont in Bemidji and the Resorters in Alexandria. It's played every August, draws about 500 golfers from more than 35 states, and uses medal qualifying and then match play, with a 64-player title flight. Tom Lehman was medalist in 1980, 1972 champion John Harris went on to win the 1993 U.S. Amateur, Tom Hoge won it in 2009, and in 1965 Ken Pinns won all three resort-circuit events in the same summer.
The clubhouse on the Pine to Palm side went up in 1995, with dining upstairs and locker rooms below. Detroit Country Club also runs a second course, Lakeview.
