Minnesota Lakes Country Golf Courses & Tee Times
This market runs from the Red River at Fargo-Moorhead east into Minnesota's lake country around Detroit Lakes, Perham, Pelican Rapids and Alexandria. The history is in Detroit Lakes. Detroit Country Club's Pine to Palm course was completed in 1916, and its Pine to Palm tournament, first held in 1931, still draws about 500 players every August. It is one of three Minnesota "resort circuit" events, with the Birchmont in Bemidji and the Resorters in Alexandria. Tom Lehman was its medalist in 1980, and 1972 champion John Harris went on to win the 1993 U.S. Amateur.

Who runs public golf in Minnesota Lakes Country
In Fargo, the Park District runs all five city courses under the Fargo Golf name: Edgewood and Rose Creek (18 holes, par 71 each) plus the Osgood, Prairiewood and El Zagal nines. There is no resident rate; season passes cover all five courses (5-for-1), the three nines (3-for-1) or a single course, and a 2026 fall adult 5-for-1 pass is $318. Across the river, Moorhead Parks & Recreation runs two 18-hole courses, The Meadows and Village Green, at $40 for 18 for adults in 2026. In lake country most golf is club- or resort-run but open to the public, from Detroit Country Club's two courses to Wildflower and Perham Lakeside.

Why tee times in Minnesota Lakes Country are hard to get
Golfers in Minnesota Lakes Country get maybe six months of good weather, and they all want the same weekend mornings. Demand bunches up from May to September.
Each course releases its tee times on its own schedule, commonly a week or two out, with residents of town and county courses often booking first. Leagues, outings and members claim chunks of the sheet in advance, and whatever prime weekend times are left tend to go on release day.
When tee time cancellations happen
Booked-up doesn't mean gone. Plans change: groups cancel ahead of the course's cancellation deadline (often 24 to 48 hours out), players drop when the forecast turns, and a group that shrinks leaves an open spot. Those times quietly come back on the booking page, usually for minutes, not hours.

Doing it by hand? Here's what works.
- Know the booking window. Find out how many days ahead each course releases times, and whether residents get an earlier window. Be ready the morning it opens.
- Look again 24 to 48 hours out. That's when most cancellation deadlines pass and spots come back.
- Be flexible on group size. Singles and twosomes fit into gaps a foursome can't.
- Try twilight and weekday afternoons. They're the last to fill and often cheaper.
- Keep a quicker course in your back pocket. Nine-hole and executive courses are easier to get on and play faster. Around here that includes Hardwood Hills Golf Course, Lida Greens Golf Course and Osakis Country Club.
