About Missaukee Golf Club

Missaukee is a straightforward northern Michigan round: gently rolling ground, hardwoods, five ponds and a small creek. It's been public since it opened in 1970 and plays just 6,045 yards from the back tees and 4,905 from the forward tees, so it won't beat you up with length. The club's own word for it is "user friendly."

Short doesn't mean nothing to think about. The club's hole notes point to fairway bunkers, bunkered greens and a dogleg left with trees and a pond down the whole left side. The 9th is the signature: cut the corner to get down the hill, or play it straight and leave a downhill shot in. The 10th follows with a long downhill par 3, and anything short can find the creek.

It sits at M-55 and M-66 between Lake City and McBain, about 15 minutes from Cadillac. There's a pro shop and a snack bar, plus leagues, clinics and junior lessons.

It's one of 22 courses Yoink watches in the Cadillac & Houghton Lake area, and the closest alternative is Cadillac Country Club, about 11 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
