About Lakewood on the Green

Lakewood on the Green sits just southwest of Cadillac on 300-plus acres of tall pines, with a 15-acre lake and a neighborhood of homes worked in around the holes. It's short, par 70 and 6,085 yards from the blues, with four par 3s and only two par 5s, but don't read the yardage as easy: the rating is 70.3 and the slope is 136, so the tree-lined, winding fairways and the lake shoreline do the defending.

Norm Smith and his son Pete designed and built it themselves, taking seven years before it opened in 1980. By 1985 The Wedge, a National Golf Foundation market report, had called it Michigan's prettiest nine-hole golf course. It went through other names and owners over the years, Wedgewood and then Briar South, before new management brought back the original name in the spring of 2013.

There are four sets of tees, an indoor golf setup called Max Swings, and stay-and-play packages. In summer the property also has nature trails, boating, fishing and swimming.
