Maryland Golf Courses & Tee Times
The Maryland State Golf Association dates to 1921 and runs state tournaments, handicapping and a scholarship program. The state's championship history belongs mostly to Congressional in Bethesda, a private club that opened in 1924 and has held three U.S. Opens and the 1976 PGA, with the 2030 PGA and 2037 Ryder Cup ahead. Public golf is run county by county, plus Baltimore's city nonprofit and Ocean City's own course at the beach.

Who runs public golf in Maryland
Montgomery County's courses belong to the Montgomery County Revenue Authority, a county public corporation created in 1957. Under the MCG name it runs nine courses, including Northwest in Silver Spring, a 27-hole Ault & Clark layout from 1964 that is the county's longest. Baltimore's five city courses have been run since 1985 by the nonprofit Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation. Prince George's parks run Enterprise in Mitchellville. On the Eastern Shore, the Town of Ocean City owns Eagle's Landing, with a rewards program for year-round residents. Maryland has no state parks golf system. Rocky Gap's Jack Nicklaus course was built by a state development agency, MEDCO, in 1998 and sold with the resort in 2012.

Getting a tee time in Maryland
The season in Maryland runs roughly from spring to late fall. The first warm weekends in spring and the cool, dry weekends of fall are the hardest to book.
Most public courses open their tee sheet a set number of days ahead, often 7 to 14, and many municipal courses give residents or card holders an earlier window. The best weekend-morning times usually go the day they're released. Leagues and outings take blocks of the sheet before the public ever sees them.
A full tee sheet rarely stays full. Many courses let you cancel without a fee up to 24 or 48 hours before your time, so spots tend to reappear in the last couple of days. A bad forecast shakes more loose, and a foursome that drops to three opens a single. None of it is announced. The time just shows up again on the booking page, and whoever looks first gets it.
