About Hog Neck Golf Course
Hog Neck is the big public course on Maryland's Eastern Shore: a par-72 championship 18 that stretches to 7,100 yards, plus a nine-hole executive course next door. That's real length for the Shore, so pick your tees honestly. The course asks for a 4-hour-15-minute round, and carts stay 30 yards off the greens and on the paths at every par 3.
Lindsay Bruce Ervin's firm did the whole job here, from the master plan and construction drawings to inspecting the build, and all 27 holes opened in 1976. It got noticed quickly. In 1990 Golf Digest listed it among the top 25 of America's 75 Best Public Golf Courses, and Maryland Life Magazine's readers poll named it the finest golf on the Upper Eastern Shore for 2012.
Talbot County runs it through a golf board with a County Council liaison, and county residents and full-time county employees get their own rates. For practice there's a very large putting green, a chipping complex and a range with grass and mat tees, and there's a cafe for after the round.
