About Enterprise Golf Course
Enterprise is one of Prince George's County's three parks-department courses, an 18-hole par 72 that runs 6,750 yards from the blues, with whites at 6,335 and golds and reds at 5,647 and 5,027. It's parkland golf with trees along most of the holes: the map survey counts 16 of 18 tree-lined, ten doglegs, 38 bunkers, water near just four holes and about 60 feet of elevation change. The history is the house. The course opened in 1976 on the old Newton White dairy farm, and the Neo-Georgian Newton White Mansion, built in 1939 for Navy Captain Newton H. White, sits inside it. White was the first commanding officer of the USS Enterprise, and the estate, once the centerpiece of a 586-acre dairy farm, was known locally as the Enterprise Estate. Today the golf course surrounds it entirely.
There's a driving range, putting green, short-game area, simulator, snack bar and patio, and the county keeps hand-controlled accessible carts for golfers with mobility impairments ($7 a round; call a day ahead). The course is open all year, with the first tee time at 7 a.m. from April through September.
