About Kearney Hill Links
Kearney Hill is Lexington's Pete and P.B. Dye course, a 1989 design in northwest Fayette County built as a Scottish-style links: open, rolling ground, very few trees, and deep sand and grass bunkers. It's 7,062 yards and par 72 from the back. The head pro says you can see almost every hole from the clubhouse, and that openness is why the wind runs the show. The 4th, 9th and 13th usually play straight into it.
It's heavily bunkered. The map survey counts 71 bunkers, water on five holes and only eight holes lined by trees, and the whole property moves about 40 feet top to bottom. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data. The finish is what locals talk about: 15 through 17 all have water alongside, the head pro calls it the course's Amen Corner, and the 16th asks the same question as the 18th at TPC Sawgrass, how much of the water you're willing to bite off.
The tournament list is long for a city course. It hosted the Senior Tour's Bank One Classic from 1990 to 1997, the U.S. Amateur Public Links in 1997, the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links in 2007 and the Girls Junior PGA Championship in 2018, which Yealimi Noh won at 24 under. It has held the Kentucky Open too, including the 100th playing. It's also a certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.
It's one of 49 courses Yoink watches in the Louisville & Lexington area, and the closest alternative is University Club Of Kentucky - Big Blue Course, about 4 miles away — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
