About Bobby Jones Golf Complex - Ross Course

This is the City of Sarasota's Donald Ross course, first opened in 1926 and dedicated to Bobby Jones in 1927. In its heyday people came from all over to play it, Babe Ruth and PGA champion Paul Azinger among them. After the recession it slid into disrepair, and when COVID-19 hit, it closed.

In January 2022 the city commission voted to restore the Ross course, build a short course and a new clubhouse, and put the land under a conservation easement, the first time the city has protected public land in perpetuity. Richard Mandell's restoration started in March 2022, and the course reopened on December 16, 2023. It's a par 71, and it's Audubon certified.
