About Sun N Lake Golf Club: Turtle Run

Turtle Run is the newer and shorter of the two courses at Sun 'N Lake, the community club outside Sebring. Charles Ankrom designed it and it opened in 1999. It's par 72 and 6,350 yards from the Blue tees (70.5 rating, 127 slope), with four shorter sets down to 4,429. The club itself calls it the more forgiving of its two courses, but that's relative: the landing areas are narrow, there are a lot of moguls and some deep sand, and the greens are where it gets hard.

The setting is the part you'll remember. The course was built in the middle of a Scrub Jay Preservation Area, a sanctuary for the protected Florida bird, and the club asks you to stay out of the preserve if your ball goes in. It's a cart course (the cart is in the green fee), and you get to the first tee by following the yellow turtles on the cart path.

The club is run by the Sun 'N Lake of Sebring Improvement District, a local special-purpose government for the community, but anyone can book. The sister course, Deer Run, dates to 1976 and finishes on an island green.

It's one of 9 courses Yoink watches in the Sebring & Lake Placid area, and Sun N Lake Golf Club: Deer Run is practically next door — handy when your first choice is booked solid.
