About Highlands at Grand Geneva Resort
The Highlands is the shorter, trickier of Grand Geneva's two big courses: a Scottish-inspired, links-style layout over glacier-formed hills and creeks, with a lot of short par 4s where the club you hit off the tee matters more than how far you hit it. The resort calls it a shot-maker's course and says long hitters may want to leave the driver in the bag on several holes. On the map it's more parkland than links, though: trees along 13 holes, water near seven, eight doglegs and about 45 bunkers. Course character from OpenStreetMap contributors' survey data.
It started as The Briar Patch, a Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus design, and Bob Cupp reworked it in 1996. Every hole has a name. The second, Forgotten Briar, nods to the old name. The 12th, Dye Wisely, is the course's signature hole, a 205-yard par 3 across Dye's Valley to a raised green. The 13th, Nicklaus's Turn, climbs uphill. The fourth, River O Fear, carries the White River, the 15th runs beside the resort's ski hill, and the 17th, Diver's Paradise, is a 143-yard par 3 over a pond.
It's a resort course run by the Marcus Corporation, and everyone rides: carts are required and included in the green fee, along with range balls, GPS and the locker room. Four sets of tees.
